Love the Bay

Meet Clare Lovelace, the proud owner of two Soul Tribe yoga studios in Batemans Bay.¬†ūüßė‚Äć‚ôÄÔłŹ Clare believes in the power of yoga, because it is not just about the psychical yoga postures, but also about how you relate to yourself and others and how to find piece of mind. She is passionate about creating a safe place where both beginners and experienced ‘yogi’ can develop their skills.

Clare joined the Batemans Bay Business and Tourism Chamber because she wants to support local businesses thrive! She feels the Love the Bay campaign has created a real pink ‘buzz’ around town and has given Batemans Bay and surrounds a ‘positivity injection’!

Finding the best fit for every customer, is what Sansoms Furniture One does well, owner Vaughan Sansom explains in this exclusive Love the Bay video. That is probably why they received so much support from their customers and the community after they lost their building in the NYE 2019/2020 bushfires. Their new showroom is located on Orient Street, in the heart of Batemans Bay. Vaughan and local manager Kim are huge supporters of the Love the Bay campaign, highlighting wonderful businesses that people otherwise might overlook. Sansoms Furniture One is also an active member of the Batemans Bay Business and Tourism Chamber.¬†ūüíē¬†This Love the Bay business video has been produced by local photographer/videographer Martin Helmreich from Production Haus¬†ūüíē¬†Check out our Love the Bay YouTube channel to watch all videos of your local businesses:¬†¬†¬†ūüíē

2020 / 2021 Membership

By | Love the Bay, News, Newsletter

Dear Member

My name is Judy Apps and I am writing to you as the newly appointed Membership Coordinator speaking to you on behalf of the Chamber Board to seek your continued investment in the Batemans Bay Business & Tourism Chamber.

First and foremost, we want to thank you for your continued commitment with the Chamber. Without your loyalty and support, we would not be able to continuously provide you and our members with the valuable benefits and networking opportunities our community deserves. Put simply, you make what we do possible.

Can you believe we are now at the end of another financial year and you’re¬†receiving the next years’ members renewal email!¬†¬†Can you also believe we are now halfway to Christmas!

Thinking of the end of the year brings me back to last Christmas and New Year – &¬†¬† WOW, what a ride the last six to seven months have been…¬† Who would have known at the end of last year that we in Batemans Bay would have played such a large part in the monumental event that was the 2019/2020 Australian Bushfires Bushfire Season!¬† In my life have¬†never seen Australia so covered with fire, and I imagine a lot of others feel this way too.

Man what a ride!  The fires went out and then just as we started to catch our breath, we, like the rest of the world, got hit by COVID-19.

Monumental – I think we can all agree this is a good word for what we’ve been¬†and are continuing¬†to go through,¬†another word I relate to is transforming.¬†¬†Transforming in the way we look at how we operate, transforming in the way we approach our everyday activities and interactions, and¬†transforming in how we plan our future and¬†interact.

For me,¬†transforming¬†with¬†community¬†tells me how we have adapted and just how important we are to each other.¬† I guess if I was to say this¬†corporately, I would¬†say¬†– ‘This change process has¬†strategically and collaboratively become how we work together to transform our community for a better outcome’.

Yeah, I think I will just go with the first sentence :).

During the last year the Batemans Bay Business and Tourism Chamber developed The Love the Bay campaign, the Love the Bay working group and the Love the Bay Gift Card! An initiative that allows people to purchase gift cards online or from specific local businesses.  The best thing about the Love the Bay Gift Card program is that it is totally free to become a business where people can spend their gift card.

We are #allinthistogether, so make sure you join us in showing your love for our community:

  • Accept the Love the Bay Gift Card (register:¬†
  • Tag @lovethebaybb in your social media posts
  • Hand out Love the Bay bumper stickers to your customers
  • Display a Love the Bay poster in your shop window
  • Extend your Chamber membership on¬†
  • Need stickers or posters or would like to chat about Love the Bay opportunities, email:¬†¬†or contact us via our social media pages

Useful Resources for Businesses – May Newsletter from your Business Chamber

By | Featured, Love the Bay, News, Newsletter

We trust this newsletter finds you well and enjoying this amazing Autumn weather, amongst an extremely difficult time during the COVID-19 lockdown. We all should feel very fortunate to be living in this wonderful country and to have escaped the extreme health crisis many other countries have experienced.

With the easing of restrictions this weekend and businesses starting to open up slowly allowing the economy to rebound ‚Äď we are certainly seeing more energy and vibrancy within the town which is very positive but it is clear, there is still no travel for leisure purposes.¬† With regional holidays not permitted, it is time to focus on our immediate surrounds, buy and shop local and support those businesses that have supported you.¬† Position your business to best support our local market, and lets‚Äô hope we can welcome visitors again in the not too distant future.

The Chamber has been restricted during this timeframe not being able to hold monthly meetings but be rest assured we have been working behind the scenes Рkeeping abreast of the developments with regular Zoom meetings with the other chambers in Eurobodalla alongside the ESC and planning and discussing what is required for us to bounce back once restrictions have been lifted.  Also we were online a few weeks ago for a Tele Town Hall Event  involving the NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet and Business NSW which came away with some interesting data which was very positive, that we feel necessary to share.

  • Three quarters of business owners believe their operations will survive the COVID-19 crisis (3,000 chamber members were surveyed on the line from across NSW, including the Capital and Far South Coast regions).
  • Asked whether they believe that their business would survive the current crisis, 72 per cent of respondents answered yes, while another 23 per cent said they were unsure. Just 5 per cent believed their business would be forced to close.

‚ÄúThese are very high numbers considering the impact the virus and the restrictions have had on businesses of all types and in all locations,‚ÄĚ said Adam Zarth, Executive Director, Capital Far South Coast.¬†‚ÄúThe optimism and ‚Äėcan do‚Äô attitude of business owners and their employees has never surprised me; however, this has been the ultimate test of their endurance and perseverance,‚ÄĚ Mr Zarth said.

‚ÄúThe Treasurer too was heartened by these figures, and by the grit and resilience being shown by the business operators on the call ‚Äď their determination to continue operations, paying their staff and supporting their communities was there for all to hear and see.‚ÄĚ

‚ÄúOf course, the big challenge for businesses will be in coming months when our way of life slowly starts to return to a new normal and the harsh reality of their true financial position becomes clear after government subsidies end for them and for their customers.‚ÄĚ

‚ÄúThe Business NSW has advocated for business owners and their staff to immediately download the¬†COVIDSafe App¬†as it advocates for a staged re-opening of businesses in the short term,‚ÄĚ Mr Zarth said.

Appreciating there has been so much documentation coming through over the past few months and it is difficult to know which businesses need what and certainly we are here to assist if required but we have put a list of valuable links (below) together to assist if you require regular updates which you have not been able to assess.

Last but certainly not least Рit continues to amaze me the uptake of support for the Chamber/John Holland initiative for the Love the Bay Campaign.  Who would have thought, when this was launched in December 2019 what the next 6 months was going to look like?  The social media presence is certainly building and we are fortunate to be able to have funded filming and developing wonderful promotional material for numerous businesses, which we have promoted via social media channels and the links are below for those that would like to check out some of the amazing resilient businesses we have in this town.

We look forward to the next chapter and will be in touch as soon as we can see our way clear to hold another chamber meeting.
